There are quite a few types of back pain, and they all have different causes. You may have been injured which could cause temporary or permanent discomfort. Sometimes it is a symptom of an illness that you have. Routines that we do every day, that we don?t even think about, could actually be a precursor to developing back pain. Simple things that we do can actually be inappropriate for our spine, causing our back to hurt due to the strain that we are placing upon it.
If you sit at a desk or computer, or anywhere, for a long time without moving around, you might be subject to back pain. And the chair may not be the problem, even if it isn?t comfortable. Just the fact of sitting ? anywhere ? can lead to back pain. Why is this? When you are seated, there is more pressure on your back. You don?t have as much pressure when you are walking around or simply standing. Office workers, draftsmen, and writers ? who spend hours on the computer ? are all vulnerable to back pain. For this reason, some people and businesses are switching to stand-up style desks. Research has proven that your health and well-being will improve if you spend less time sitting. If it isn?t possible for you to work standing up, at least part of the time, make it a point to get up frequently from your chair and do some type of movements. You back will enjoy the change if you just get up, walk around, stretch, and then go back to work.
Do you carry a briefcase or laptop with you? If you do, it is possible that the weight from this object or device may be causing the back pain that you are suffering from. The distribution of weight and which side of your body that you carry the object on ads to the problem. The way that you carry your purse, if you have one, can also add to the back discomfort that you may experience. By carrying less, you can actually help alleviate this problem. If you travel a lot, and you take a suitcase with you, always use one that works by using wheels. Today, many people are using bags and cases that can be rolled for everyday use, as it?s a lot easier on your back than carrying everything around.
Back pain can also occur if you have a lot of stress. Anyone that feels a great deal of tension will reflect this in their muscles. The amount of tension that you experience each day can contribute to how tense your muscles are in your arms, legs, and, of course, your back. It?s best to learn to release stress so it doesn?t cause any physical symptoms. Parts of your body can also become inflamed due to the release of cortisol in your body caused by stress. The easiest way to prevent this from happening is to recognize and acknowledge that you have a problem with stress and to do something about it. Even if your back pain was caused by something else, stress can make it worse and make it take longer to heal, so it?s worthwhile to find ways to reduce stress in your life.
Certain illnesses can cause back pain as a side effect. Diabetes is a good example because it can result in back pain, as well as pain in other regions of the body. This is caused by the negative effect that diabetes has on the immune system. There are many nerve disorders ? called neuropathy ? that can occur with diabetes. This can result in pain in many parts of the body, and this often includes the back. The best preventative care a diabetic can take is to keep control of their blood sugar level at all times. This can prevent neuropathy, or nerve pain, from developing. Getting rid of your excess weight will not only help you control your diabetes but, as mentioned above, can help alleviate back pain due to stress on your spine. It?s not easy to live with chronic back pain. Even getting up in the mornings can seem like a major chore. So, being knowledgeable as to what is behind your back pain can help you to avoid these instances in the future. If you have a disease or illness that is contributing to your back pain, you must first get it taken care of and as under control as possible. If it?s not a side effect of an illness, then it?s time to take a long, hard look at your life and try to determine what you might be doing ? or not doing ? that is causing your back pain.
